An army vehicle overturned during an exercise in Hoogersmilde tonight. Five soldiers were injured.
The accident happened on the site of the sand-lime brick factory on the PR Roelfsema Rzn.-weg. According to a spokesperson for the Marechaussee, the vehicle fell off an embankment and flipped over. Several ambulances, the trauma helicopter, the police and the fire brigade came to help.
Two soldiers were taken to hospital. According to the spokesperson, one of these soldiers was seriously injured, the other sustained minor injuries. The three other soldiers involved in the accident were treated on the spot.
An investigation is underway into how the incident could have happened.
