Leaders of the three fishing cooperative societies that exist in the Pueblo Viejo lagoon, consider it necessary to carry out these cleaning works to give greater depth to this body of water.

Iván Villanueva, president of the Unique Regional Cooperative, mainly dedicated to the extraction of oysters, refers that it is necessary to carry out the dredging of this lake, to maintain that flow of fresh and salt water conducive to the reproduction of species and the oyster. The fishermen leader explained that the Pueblo Viejo lagoon requires at least dredging in a template of 60 meters in front, by three meters deep and a length of five to eight kilometers, which would cause the sea to penetrate with its tides in this body of water, improving conditions and allowing neutralization and this would make the lake keep its conditions. For his part, the biologist Sergio García Sandoval, explained that fortunately the Pueblo Viejo lagoon has an annual arrival by the Pánuco River, which occurs with freshwater floods, which bring fertilization conditions, replacement, which show that the lagoon maintains that cycle of vital renewal.

He recalled that the oyster is a natural biological indicator that allows knowing whether or not there are eutrophication conditions, and stressed that as there are oyster banks in the Pueblo Viejo lagoon, it means that the environmental conditions of excessive nutrient enrichment do not yet exist. .
