First Meeting Between Filippo Turetta and His Parents in Prison

VENICE First meeting in prison between Filippo Turetta and his parents. The interview, already authorized by the Venice prosecutor’s office last week and then postponed for reasons of expediency, took place yesterday, between hugs and tears: Filippo’s father, Nicola Turetta, and his mother Elisabetta Martini, entered the prison of Montorio just before 12 and stopped for about an hour. The visit took place in a “protected” room, on a day of respite from the siege of journalists and teleoperators who, until the interrogation on Friday, were stationed in front of the penitentiary in which the twenty-two-year-old from Padua is locked up, accused of having killed the ex-girlfriend, the student from Vigonovo, Giulia Cecchettinhis peer.

THE HUG

“We made sure to protect their privacy, as is done with every family – a source explained to the Adnkronos news agency – In the end Filippo was relieved, he learned that he had not been abandoned, that he was not alone”.
Turetta had asked since Saturday 25 November, after having crossed the entrance door of the Verona prison, to be able to see his parents, but the meeting had been postponed: the lawyer Giovanni Caruso had explained that the appointment required a psychological preparation. But, the postponement of the meeting was probably also decided in view of the interrogation that Filippo underwent in front of the prosecutor Andrea Petroni, which lasted the whole day last Friday. For the moment no others are planned, also because the first is considered exhaustive.” However, the repatriation from Germany of the Punto nera used for the escape is awaited: apparently, it will not return before December 10th and only then will it be able to be examined by investigators.

Filippo Turetta, Giulia stabbed in the car or while fleeing? Here is the crux of dismantling the defense strategy

Nicola Turetta and Elisabetta Martini had not seen their son since November 11th, when the young man left the house to accompany Giulia to the Nave de Vero shopping center in Marghera, and then disappeared behind the wheel of his car, after stabbing his son to death. ex-girlfriend who didn’t want to pursue a relationship relationship already broken off in the summer. Her escape ended in Germany with her arrest and, subsequently, with her handing over to the Italian police.

THE CONFESSION

There are numerous elements collected by the investigators against Filippo, accused of kidnapping and voluntary homicide, with the aggravating circumstance of having acted against a person to whom he was emotionally linked. During the interrogation which lasted 9 hours, the boy admitted having committed a “terrible” gesture, saying he was ready to “pay and serve the sentence”. He reiterated his obsession with Giulia (also demonstrated by the audio message she sent to her friends) and his non-acceptance of the fact that the two were no longer a couple: “I loved her, I wanted her for myself, I didn’t accept that it was over” . This is the meaning of the words that he reportedly told prosecutor Petroni. Turetta would have pronounced the adjective “mia” several times, referring to the student from Vigonovo.

IN JAIL

In prison, Filippo is under heavy surveillance, in a cell in the infirmary, to prevent him from making extreme gestures. He will turn 22 in a few days: December 18th. It is too early to be certain, but it is likely that in prison he may decide to continue and finish his studies in biomedical engineering, the same path followed by Giulia who was due to graduate on Monday 13 November.

Filippo Turetta, new defense strategy (shock): «Intentional murder, he just wanted to stop her while she was running away»

The twenty-one year old from Torreglia risks spending at least twenty years in prison, unless the investigators are able to demonstrate that the crime was premeditated: in this case the maximum sentence foreseen is life imprisonment. Her defender will be able to request the abbreviated trial (with automatic reduction of one third of the sentence) only if a crime with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment is not contested, such as that hypothesized by the lawyers of Giulia’s family, according to whom the The killing occurred following a long period of stalking. The defense will most likely take the path of a psychiatric evaluation to try to obtain at least recognition of partial mental insanity at the time of the crime: “I lost my mind, something triggered in me”, declared Filippo during the interrogation. And he repeated the same to his parents, apologizing: “I have to pay until the end, I did something terrible, I lost my mind, but I didn’t want to and I know that you will never be able to forgive me.”
