RA fire on the balcony of a high-rise building in the Mitterau district of Krems was quickly extinguished. Over 40 helpers were on duty.

The resident (57) discovered the fire on her balcony on the first floor when she came home. Shortly after 1 p.m. emergency calls were received by the fire department and police.

Balcony in full fire, heavy smoke development

The Krems and Gneixendorf fire stations responded with eleven vehicles and more than 40 members. In the apartment building, the main aim was to prevent the fire from spreading to the many other apartments. The Florianis found the balcony already fully ablaze. At the same time there was a lot of smoke. When the first fire engine arrived, the fire was immediately extinguished from a distance using the rapid response team.

Luckily there were no injuries

Using a ladder, access to the balcony could be gained from the front area of ​​the house. It was extinguished within a few minutes of the fire breaking out. Because an investigation revealed that there were no people or animals in the apartment, there were no injuries, and the Red Cross, which was on site with an ambulance and the emergency medical vehicle (NEF), remained “unemployed”.

Ashtray as a possible starting point

While the apartment and the staircase were made smoke-free, the fire brigade checked the adjacent apartments for the spread of smoke gases and for smoke or the presence of other fire gases. The police investigation has not yet been finally completed. What is certain is that there were no electrical or electronic devices on the balcony. A possible starting point for the fire could have been an ashtray…
