At around 2.20 pm a fire broke out in an apartment complex on Vlaardingenlaan in Nieuw-West. Three people were injured. The fire was put out after about an hour.
It was a seventh floor apartment. Images showed a firefighter trying to put out the blaze from a ladder truck. A lot of smoke was visible. The police cordoned off large parts of the Vlaardingenlaan.
One of the three victims was taken to hospital by ambulance. The person had burns and smoke inhalation, firefighters said.
The new complex was completed this summer. One of the residents said the eighth floor had been evacuated by firefighters. He estimates that a total of about two hundred people live overall.
Firefighters advised smoke-affected residents to close windows and doors and turn off ventilation.
