17-Year-Old Boy Found Dead in Stryn, Death Considered Suspicious

A 17-year-old boy was found dead near the center of Stryn at around 8.30pm on Sunday evening.

The boy was reported missing by his friends after attending the Motorsport Festival in Stryn, and was last seen on the night of Sunday in the center of Stryn. The boy must have been visiting.

Superintendent of Police Vidar Stavik says that the boy was found in the lake off national highway 15 in Stryn. He was found about five meters from shore, not far from the festival area.

– We do not know the circumstances of him ending up in the sea, he says.

Stavik informs NRK that the police are now working to find out who saw the boy last and to map his movements.

The death is categorized as suspicious, writes operations manager Frode Kolltveit in the West police district in a press release.

There is no information that the missing person has been subjected to any criminal activity. The police have nevertheless started an investigation at the scene and so far are keeping all possibilities open, the press release further states.

Many volunteer crews were sent out to search for the boy.

Volunteer crews from the Red Cross, Norwegian Rescue Dogs and Norwegian People’s Aid were called out to search for the boy. Crews from the local fire service searched in some rivers around the central area of ​​Stryn.
