The Brussels fire brigade emphasizes that barbecuing is a bad idea. “An indoor barbecue is a big risk, because the combustion gases from the charcoal get stuck in the smoke inside,” says Walter Derieuw, spokesman for the Brussels fire brigade. “The smoke and the carbon monoxide will then stick and that is dangerous.” Every year, several people in our country die from the consequences of CO poisoning.
“It is therefore not recommended to barbecue indoors. In Brussels, it is not even allowed on the balcony. So if you are barbecuing, do so in an open area such as the garden or an interior courtyard with adequate ventilation,” says Derieuw.
