Ferrero sells over a billion Nutella Biscuits and announces new hires

Beyond one billion Nutella Biscuits sold in Italy: this is the record figure reached by Ferrero one year after the launch of the product that is making the fortune of the confectionery multinational and which will allow it to invest in new jobs.

In light of the achievement of this result, Ferrero announced the approval of 80 million euros for the construction of a new production line, also in the Italian plant of Balvano, in the province of Potenza.

It will go in parallel with that already built and will allow to double the production capacity, so as to respond both to internal demand and to the request for new markets yet to be reached.

For the production of Nutella Biscuits Ferrero plans to employ over 230 people who will dedicate themselves to both production lines, adding to the 450 already engaged in the factory.

The company’s forecasts estimated the sale of 25 million packages, but over 47 million have been purchased by more than 7 million families in our country alone.

Nutella Biscuits make up about 8.5% of the biscuit market. Considering that the sector, as stated by the general manager of the market research company IRI, Angelo Massaro, “grew in Italy by 13%, equal to 185 million euros, it is clear that growth is driven by over 75% from Nutella Biscuits”.

A product that from the first appearances in supermarkets has sold like hot cakes, as admitted by the CEO himself: “And we always apologize to them, if this overwhelming success has exceeded our sales estimates, causing in the first months after launch, the unease of an empty shelf or taken by storm or the disappointment of not being able to buy a pack of Nutella Biscuits ”.

But next year Nutella Biscuits will change shape: “In 2021 we will launch a new format – announced d’Este – in a tube, a practical package to taste the product where the consumer prefers, to satisfy the demand that is confirmed at constantly high levels . “
