Femke Bol in Rome for the European Athletics Championships: “I can’t wait, Tamberi will make the Olimpico explode”

“I can’t wait”. Femke Bol, one of the champions of world athletics, has announced her presence at the European Athletics Championships in Rome. The world champion of the 400 meters hurdles, currently the best athlete on the continent in the women’s field, has in fact confirmed her presence from 7 to 12 June at the event at the Stadio Olimpico and the Foro Italico.

In Munich in 2022 the Dutchman won three gold medals in the 400m hurdles, the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay. Last year she then established herself in the 400 hurdles at the World Championships in Budapest 2023 and she dragged the Dutch relay team towards another triumph in the 4×400 relay. This season too, the start was exciting, with the indoor victory. She improved her 400m world record to 49.17 at the World Championships in Glasgow in March and she repeated with gold in the 4x400m relay by again running the final leg for the Netherlands. Now the wait for Rome.

“I can’t wait – Bol said to the official European Athletics channels – I have always loved Rome and I played one of my first Diamond Leagues there in the times of Covid. In a huge stadium there were only a couple of people present on the stands because then the public couldn’t enter. The following year I was there again and there was Gianmarco Tamberi jumping, driving the fans crazy. Yes, the Italians literally go crazy, they are such a warm crowd and that’s very nice I can’t wait to be able to compete there again. I think the stadium and the track of the Stadio Olimpico are fantastic, it will be nice to be able to test myself on the 400 hurdles too. And then I love warming up at the Stadio dei Marmi, with the statues around it: a unique atmosphere”.
