Feminist Strike Day: Night action and meetings multiplied – Vaud & Regions

Coronavirus obliges, the day of the Feminist Strike in the canton of Vaud is multiplied Sunday. Instead of a single event in Lausanne, mobilization is decentralized to Renens, Morges, Yverdon, Vevey and Nyon. A first action took place during the night.

The Vaudois Feminist Strike Collective organized a Sunday prologue on Saturday evening around 11:30 p.m. Some 300 people gathered on Place de la Riponne, according to a photographer from Keystone-ATS. They sang feminist hymns, purple scarves and lights on them.

A flashmob then took place on the stairs of the Rumine Palace, on the model of the Chilean slam “Un violador en tu camino” (“A rapist on your way”), which became a viral hymn against violence against women after the big demonstrations November in Santiago de Chile.

Four places, four themes

For Sunday and to mark the International Day for the Struggle for Women’s Rights, the Vaud Collective of the Feminist Strike has circumvented the ban on the organization of demonstrations gathering more than 1000 people decreed by the Confederation. It organizes decentralized gatherings.

“Let’s occupy public space throughout the canton: in our neighborhoods, our cities and our places of life!” (…) The coronavirus separates us but we continue to fight together! ”, Invites the group. Events are planned in Renens, Morges, Yverdon, Vevey and Nyon.

In Lausanne itself, the large gathering planned at the station at midday is replaced by mini-demonstrations in four places in the Vaud capital from 2 p.m. Four themes were chosen: pensions and annuities in place of Palud, eco-feminism in place Saint-Laurent, students and precarious work in place of Europe and (un) paid care work instead of the Riponne.

A flashmob, the same as the day before, is scheduled at 3:24 p.m. at the station, a symbolic hour at which women stop being paid compared to men. The end of this Vaudois day of mobilization will end at 5:00 p.m. on Place de la Riponne, with various messages from international feminist movements and songs. (ats / nxp)
