Fehmarn: Baby freed from overheated car

Baby rescuer from Fehmarn has a display on his neck

It sounds unbelievable what happened on Friday in Burg on the Baltic Sea island of Fehmarn. A baby was left behind in a car by the father in the heat because he wanted to stretch his legs. A man parked next to the car heard the child’s screams and screamed unsuccessfully for the owner of the car. Then he smashed the window and saved the baby. The father’s reaction is simply speechless.

Family father wanted to stretch his legs

When the 47-year-old man from Celle saw the baby in the car at 30 degrees, he first screamed for the owner of the vehicle, as the Lübeck police announced via Facebook. Since no one responded, he smashed the side window of the car and got the child out. “The parking ticket in the vehicle had been bought eleven minutes beforehand,” said the police.

Shortly afterwards the owner of the car returned. The father from Bremen and his family “represented the two of them a little and went to the sanitary facilities” in the parking lot. He left the baby behind in the car because it “slept soundly” and the “car was in partial shade,” the message said. He was only gone for about ten minutes.

Police inform the youth welfare office

According to the police, the father of the family found the 47-year-old’s intervention “disproportionate”. He filed charges of property damage. The police on Fehmarn also acted on their part. The officials sent a report on the suspected child welfare endangerment to the responsible youth welfare office.
