In the upcoming expansion for the popular online card game Hearthstone, players will be transported to the Badlands, a lawless zone in a bygone era. However, a group of noble gunslingers, led by Elise (before she became part of the Explorer’s League), decides to rescue the townspeople who are forced to work in the mines.
While the overall content follows the usual trajectory, the expansion introduces two new mechanics or keywords that add an entertaining twist to the game. Playing discovered treasures comes at a low cost, but the effects are often powerful compared to the mana cost.
The Quickdraw keyword activates an additional effect on a card if it is played in the same turn it is drawn. This adds a strategic element to gameplay, as players must carefully consider when to play certain cards.
Cards with the Excavate keyword allow players to dig up treasures, with each subsequent excavation increasing the value of the treasure. Treasures refer to neutral cards that can be played for one, two, or three mana. Certain classes have the ability to dig deeper and unearth legendary treasures for four mana. The cycle then repeats.
Players who log into the game now will receive the legendary steed Thunderbringer in advance, while others will have a chance to obtain it in the first booster pack of the Showdown in the Badlands expansion.
The expansion is set to be released on November 14th. Prior to the launch, the Blizzcon event will take place from November 3rd to 4th, where developers will hint at their plans for the upcoming year.
