Al-Marsad Newspaper: Experts have revealed that fatty liver disease is one of the major health problems associated with the liver and can affect the legs and abdomen.
Experts explained that if the condition worsens, the patient may suffer from further problems posed by swelling of the legs and accumulation of fluid in the abdomen, and the chronic inflammation is said to cause gradual damage to the liver or cirrhosis. They added: Complications occur due to increased pressure in the vein that carries blood through the liver, known as the portal vein, and increased pressure in the vein causes fluid to accumulate in the body, including in the legs, the ankles and abdomen.
They stressed that when the pressure in the portal vein rises, it can rupture, leading to internal bleeding, and therefore if you see any signs of blood in your stool or vomit, you should go to the hospital quickly to get the necessary medical treatment.
Experts have pointed out that any yellowing of the eyes and skin is another common symptom of liver damage.
