Expert reports from the Legal Medical Service confirm suicide in the death of mother and daughter in the Mapuche community of Ercilla

The expert opinions carried out by the Legal Medical Service (SML) confirmed that the cause of death of Iris Rosales Quiñilén (53) and his daughter Rosa Quintana Rosales (17) —who were found yesterday inside a house in the Juan Pinoleo de Ercilla community — it was a suicide by hanging.

The information was released by the prosecutor Enrique Vasquez, who investigates the death of the victims together with the PDI Homicide Brigade. “The conclusion of the autopsies entrusted to the SML shows that the cause of death of both women is a suicide-type asphyxia by hanging“Said the prosecutor, who stressed that the foregoing is consistent with the preliminary antecedents obtained during the attendance at the site of the event, which also ruled out the intervention of third parties.

“The analysis of the SML dates the time of death of both victims, between 3 and 9 in the morning of Friday, August 7 and confirms the absence of injuries attributable to third parties, in the same sense that the Investigations Police when it attends to carry out the first proceedings instructed by the Prosecutor’s Office ”, said the prosecutor Vásquez.

Vásquez also explained that relatives of the women who live no more than 30 meters away indicated that they had seen them for the last time on Thursday night: “They indicate that it seemed strange to them that the minor did not want to have dinner that night with the family group, a question that she was doing permanently ”. The same witnesses, according to the information available so far, commented that the next day to enter the property they had to break one of the windows since the house was locked from the inside.

Prosecutor Vásquez also indicated that he instructed measures aimed at determining the motivation of the women, such as the analysis of their cell phones. He also added that relatives of the victims have provided information that points to the same line that needs to be corroborated. “However, we cannot provide any antecedent in order to protect the privacy of the deceased,” said the persecutor.
