During the Covid-19 restrictions, illegal entertainment venues operate in Riga – in Latvia – News

The leading Latvian nightclub “Coyote Fly” was the first to raise concerns about the fact that there are several groups of people in Riga who organize such parties. Ģirts Upītis, co-owner of the club “KadagiPiens”, points out: “As soon as the restriction was imposed until midnight, the turnover dropped by 40%. In fact, you have to work – you have to work at a disadvantage ”.

A number of illegal workers have responded to people’s desire to party after midnight, but neither the State nor the municipal police are actively raiding illegal parties.

Liene Bukbārde, the head of the nightclub “Coyote Fly”, points out that in this way the entire legal entertainment industry in Latvia is being destroyed.

A visitor of underground events to TV3 News admitted that the State Revenue Service (SRS) could not do anything against such underground events. You must first wait for a report from the police that you have been engaged in an economic activity outside the permitted working hours. The sale of alcoholic beverages is also illegal. In her turn, SRS representative Evita Teice-Mamaja explains that so far the revenue service has not received information from the municipal police about such cases. Depending on the nature of the specific offense, the SRS applies an administrative penalty. In the case of illegal trade in alcohol, the penalties can be relatively severe.

Toms Sadovskis, a public relations specialist at the Riga Municipal Police, explains that a number of administrative processes have been initiated in recent weeks and that work to identify such illegal entertainment establishments will certainly continue.

Information about underground events circulates after midnight on both Facebook and the Telegram app, and formally, visitors to such illegal entertainment venues seem to be participating in private celebrations.

However, according to the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC), if strangers come to the event and tickets are sold, it is still a public event. Renting premises is also already a service and is a public event.
