2023 has barely ended and several cities in Occitania have already announced major events for 2024. This is particularly the case for Nimes (Gard).
A new date for contemporary art
2024 marks the advent of a new major cultural event. Named “ La Contemporaine de Nîmes » and organized by the city, this new cultural project will take place from Friday April 5 to Sunday June 23.
It aims to allow Nîmes and tourists to discover French and international works. These will be exhibited in different cultural places of the Gard city, thus allowing visitors to take a unique cultural journey.
This new festival of contemporary art will now be organized every three years.
Festival and Tour de France
Major event each year, the Nimes Festival will once again set the Arena ablaze next June. In recent weeks, the organizers have revealed the names of the first artists present. And like every year, the public responded. Two concerts are already sold out. Further announcements are expected to be made next January.
This summer, music lovers will mingle with bike lovers for a few days. And for good reason, the Tour de France will stop in the capital of Gard. Tuesday July 16, the riders of the big loop will arrive in Nîmes, three years after the last passage of the Tour.
Pas que les Vacations
But, from the start of the year, the festivities will continue at a frenzied pace. Besides les deux vacations (that of Pentecost from May 16 to 20, 2024 and that of the Harvest from September 19 to 22), many events are already eagerly awaited by the Gardois:

- The Song of the Year in the Arena, broadcast on TF1 on Saturday June 8;
- The Great Historical Shows from Tuesday August 6 to Tuesday August 13;
- The celebration of 140 years of the halls of Nîmes, in the city center in November 2024.
2024, anniversary year
This new year will also be an opportunity to celebrate in particular the 30th anniversary Thursdays of Nîmes. Every summer, on Thursday evening, the public is invited to stroll through the streets of the city center and enjoy numerous free open-air events and concerts. This will still be the case in July and August 2024.
The end of the year will also be marked by the highly anticipated inauguration of the new Sports Hall. Construction began in June 2023. This new complex will be located on the outskirts of the city, a few meters from Parnasse, the handball hall of USAM Nîmes Gard.
