Ex-presidential candidate of Kyrgyzstan arrested in treason case

news-id-114194" style="display:inline;">Astana. 2 September. KazTAG – Former candidate for the presidency of Kyrgyzstan Adakhan Madumarov has been arrested in a case of treason, Kaktus.Media reports.

“The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek considered a measure of restraint against MP Adakhan Madumarov. It should be noted that Adakhan Madumarov was charged under the article “Treason” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. Investigating judge Tilek Turdukulov sent him to the pre-trial detention center of the State Committee for National Security until October 24,” the statement said on Saturday.

The deputy was detained on September 2 near his house during a walk, at which time Adakhan Madumarov was walking with his son.

“His case is connected with the protocol, which was signed in 2009. On March 3, 2009, Adakhan Madumarov, being the secretary of the Security Council of Kyrgyzstan, signed a protocol with Tajikistan. From the Tajik side, the document was signed by the Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Tatarstan Amirkul Azimov. There are nine points in the protocol, one of which concerns the Tort-Kocho land plot. Kyrgyzstan for 49 years received a lease from the Tajik side of 5 hectares of land with a length of 275 m for the repair of the Osh-Batken-Isfana highway and the construction of a new bridge. But later this agreement caused problems at the border,” it was reported.

As noted, the Kyrgyz side considers this site to be undescribed, and the Tajik side considers it theirs, since it has been leased to Kyrgyzstan.

“Later, Madumarov’s opponents stated that it was this protocol that caused disputes, since Kyrgyzstan actually recognized the legality of Tajikistan’s ownership of this land, undertaking to lease the territory. Madumarov said that signing this protocol at that time was the right thing to do. Thanks to this document, cars now pass freely from Sulukta to Bishkek. He noted that the protocol was not supported by the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan, which means that it has no force and should not interfere with Kyrgyzstan in negotiations with the Tajik side,” the publication clarifies.
