Everything You Need to Know About India’s 75th Republic Day Parade in 2024

The country is all set to celebrate the 75th Republic Day on January 26. This day is observed to commemorate the coming into force of the Constitution of India in 1950. The main attraction of the day is the Republic Day Parade on Kartavya Path (earlier known as Rajpath) in New Delhi. The Republic Day Parade will be a spectacular display of India’s cultural diversity and military might.

Here are some facts you should know about Republic Day Parade..

1. The Republic Day Parade will begin with the arrival of the President. The day’s event will begin with the President’s bodyguard, the Cavaliers, saluting the National Flag to the accompaniment of the National Anthem.

2. The theme of the 2024 Republic Day Parade is “India – Mother of Democracy” and “Vikasit Bharat” (Developed India).

3. This year’s parade will feature two women groups from the Defense Forces. Women soldiers will be mobilized in a group consisting of 144 people. Of these, 60 will be from the Army and the rest from the Air Force and Navy.

4. French President Emmanuel Macron is the chief guest at this year’s Republic Day celebrations. Last year, the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, was the chief guest.

5. Around 15 tableaus from various states and Union Territories have also been selected for the Republic Day Parade.

6. The first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad hoisted the national flag on January 26, 1950. The country was officially declared a democratic republic on that day.

7. The first Republic Day parade was held in 1950 at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium with over 100 aircraft and 3,000 Indian troops.

8. Indonesian President Sukarno was the first chief guest at the Republic Day Parade.

9. The first Republic Day parade was held in 1955 on Rajpath (now Kartavya Path). Governor General of Pakistan Malik Ghulam Muhammad was the chief guest.

10. The parade participants prepare for the Republic Day parade from July of the previous year. By December, after hours of training at regimental centres, they will parade on Rajpath.

11. A special camp near India Gate will also showcase tanks, military vehicles and modern military machinery showcasing India’s military might.
