“Everything will be fine” edition Zonneland teaches 10 to 12 year olds …

Under the motto ‘Everything will be fine’, Averbode publishers is launching a special interactive edition of its magazine Zonneland to help 10- to 12-year-olds deal with feelings of anxiety surrounding the corona virus. Child psychologist Katelijne Van Lommel cooperated with it. The project has the support of Flemish Welfare Minister Wouter Beke, the Children’s Rights Commission and Catholic Education Flanders.

In a statement, the publisher points out that many young people from this age group suffered mentally from the lockdown and isolation. Not only the help lines for young people Awel and JAC, but also voluntary organizations such as TEJO received a striking number of questions from teenagers with anxiety during and after the lockdown. The Pupil Guidance Centers were even required to intervene 40 percent more in difficult home situations and for young people suffering from anxiety disorders or depressed thoughts.

Zonneland’s ‘Everything will be alright’ edition aims to help teenagers discover and cope with their own feelings through tips, peer reviews and ideas for outdoor activities. The edition also contains games that start from the philosophy that “every limitation brings creativity”.

According to Barbara Vangheluwe, CEO of Averbode publishing house, ‘everything will be alright’ is the most important message that one wants to give to the children. The edition costs 5 euros and can be purchased online at www.uitgeverijaverbode.be/thuis.
