European Union Countries Paid 6.1 Billion Euros for Russian LNG in 2023

The countries of the European Union paid the Russian Federation 6.1 billion euros in 2023 for the purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Despite numerous sanctions against the Russian Federation, EU countries continue to sponsor Putin’s military machine by buying gas from Russia. How reports The Telegraph, this year alone Moscow received 6.1 billion euros from European partners for the purchase of LNG. Moreover, the number of cargo ships carrying LNG from Russia to Europe has increased by 40% compared to 2021.

According to Eurostat, in the first 9 months of the year Madrid sent 1.8 billion euros to Moscow. France – 1.5 billion euros, and Belgium purchased Russian LNG in the amount of 1.36 billion euros.

This is not a complete list of countries sponsoring the Kremlin regime. Among those pursuing trade deals with Moscow are also the Baltic states, which are considered among Ukraine’s strongest defenders in Europe.

As previously reported, Russia has found loophole in sanctions through Bulgaria and was able to earn an additional 1 billion euros.

Meanwhile, the United States inflicted a new “gas blow” across Russia. Sanctions against Arctic LNG 2 will be a painful blow to the long-term ambitions of the Russian Federation, which was planning to fight with the United States and Qatar for leadership in the liquefied gas market.
