Russia and Belarus Ready to Repel Any Threat, Says Russian Ambassador Amidst Polish Deployment

After Poland deployed forces near the borders of Belarus, the Russian ambassador to Belarus, Boris Gryzlov, stressed that the Polish authorities and the West as a whole must understand that Moscow and Minsk are ready to repel any threat, regardless of its nature and size.

We will deal with any threat.

“In Warsaw, as well as in the West as a whole, they must understand that our country is ready to repel any threat, regardless of its nature and size. We have every opportunity for that,” Gryzlov said in press statements, today, Saturday.

He also added that the recent steps taken by the Polish authorities cannot be classified as preparations for large-scale aggressive actions: “Poland announced plans to strengthen its military presence on the border with Belarus and build new defensive structures there.”

“Not aggressive acts”

He said, “From the point of view of military science, the recent steps and statements of the Polish authorities can only be classified as preparations for large-scale aggressive provocations or actions… We are talking about at least a thousand soldiers and nearly 200 pieces of equipment from two mechanized brigades, in addition to the units already along the border.”

Border training

And Minsk had announced that the fighters of the Russian Wagner Group would train with the Belarusian special forces, a few miles from the border with Poland.

Therefore, Warsaw announced the deployment of its forces on the borders, indicating that it was ready for “different scenarios according to the development of the situation.”

The Secretary of the Security Committee in Poland, Zbigniew Hoffman, said on Friday that it was decided to transfer military formations from the west of the country to the east due to potential threats associated with the presence of the Wagner Group in Belarus, according to the local news agency.

Deploy a thousand soldiers on the border

Warsaw’s comments came in conjunction with the transfer of about 1,000 of its soldiers to the border earlier this month, according to what was reported by the British newspaper “The Independent”.

And the Belarusian Ministry of Defense announced on Telegram that “during the week, units of the Belarusian special forces and representatives of the Wagner Group will train on combat missions at the Bretsky training site” near the border with Poland, according to AFP.

Prigozhin in Belarus

Minsk also published pictures of masked Wagner instructors training Belarusian soldiers to use armored vehicles and drones.

The head of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, appeared in a video clip, on Wednesday, welcoming his fighters to Belarus, telling them that they would not participate in the Kremlin’s war on Ukraine at the present time, explaining that they were gathering their strength in order to focus on Africa, during the training of the Belarusian army.
