ESPN reporter dies and 4 more in plane crash

Washington.- Five passengers died and one managed to survive after crashing the plane in which they were traveling near Lafayette (Louisiana, USA) on Saturday, authorities said.

The survivor is in a critical situation, said Alton Trahan, a spokesman for the Lafayette Fire Department in a statement.

The passengers were heading to Atlanta (Georgia) to attend one of the final matches of the university football league.

Among the deceased figure Carley Ann McCord, 30 years old and well-known sports journalist from Louisiana.

In addition, three more people who were near the place of the collision were also injured, although of a mild nature.

“I was outside just before the crash. I saw the plane flying low and fuming. I knew something was wrong. I went inside my house, and all I heard was a huge explosion,” said Kevin Jackson, witness to what happened , to the local chain KLFY.

The small plane with capacity for eight passengers has just taken off from the regional airport of Lafayette, a town of 130,000 inhabitants and located 210 kilometers west of New Orleans.

The authorities have opened an investigation to determine the cause of the fatal accident.
