Nintendo Labo is an ingenious way to play with the Nintendo Switch. It’s a construction system that encourages players to try building accessories out of cardboard, rubber bands, grommets, stickers, and more to create their own “toys” that they can use in video games. From a piano to a working “VR headset”, Labo is a brilliant exercise that the whole family can enjoy.
The sets require a Nintendo Switch with Joy-Con controllers to function, but each set includes a cartridge with the required software. Everything you need beyond that soon a few hours of your time, so you can build things on your own or with friends and family. These are great projects for children as long as they have supervision. The Nintendo Labo Robot Kit allows you to do exactly what it says on the box: build your own “functional” robot. A backpack with adjustable straps that transforms into the robot hero of the included game, then you can customize it. It is fun.

Use Toy-Con 03 to build the controls for a car, submarine, or plane. Then watch each vehicle come to life in-game as they soar through the skies, dive underwater, and hit the road. Compete against the clock or with your friends, fight in special cars that have fun abilities and explore a mysterious world.
Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit – Starter Set & Blaster ($ 19.99, originally $ 39.99; amazon.com)
The Toy-Con 04: VR Kit includes a VR starter kit with the Switch and a customizable Blaster pistol to go with it. The “VR” isn’t exactly what you’d expect from something like an Oculus Rift, but you can use the Switch to get some cool effects, like the virtual reality modes of “Super Mario Odyssey” or a map from “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild ”.
