England starts booster vaccination campaign against COVID-19 for the most vulnerable

The health authorities of England enabled as of this Monday, March 21, the platform to schedule booster vaccines against the coronavirus (COVID-19) for people 75 years of age or older, residents of nursing homes and people in groups of risk.

Within the framework of the vaccination program, called “spring booster”, the invitation will be sent to some 600,000 people in the first week to receive booster vaccinations as a preventive measure.

“The spring boosters will help boost the immunity of the elderly and the most vulnerable to ensure they are protected and help us continue to fight this virus,” Health Secretary Sajid Javid said.

Speaking to the British media BBC, Javid pointed out that the Government’s level of concern is not greater despite the increase in cases of the virus.

The official added that health authorities are looking at boosting public immunity with an additional dose in the fall.

More than 500,000 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the country in the last week, according to official data.

The UK has Europe’s highest death toll from the virus, with more than 164,000 coronavirus deaths to date.

All COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted in the country and people who test positive are no longer required to self-isolate across the UK. All travel restrictions were also removed last week.

More than 49 million people have been fully vaccinated, while 38.5 million have received a booster shot in the UK.
