Electric scooters are now limited to 8 km / h in the city of Dijon (Côte-d’Or). In question: more and more accidents.

It’s not just motorists who need to slow down. Scooter riders will also need to pay attention to the speed with which they are traveling. In Dijon (Côte-d’Or), they must no longer exceed 8 km / h. Every day in the city, 80 self-service scooters crisscross the city, for better or for worse. “Dijon is very pedestrian, we can take one at any time”, reports a local resident.

More and more accidents are taking place: only one in 2018, against 14 since the start of 2021. The municipality has decided to strike hard: from 2022, self-service scooters will be limited to 8km / h in the hypercentre. “For me, in time to stay on foot and walk clearly”, another local resident is surprised. The highway code is clear: the maximum authorized speed is 25km / h, and it is forbidden to drive on sidewalks.
