German Social Democratic Party Takes Lead in Bundestag Elections

The Social Democratic Party of Germany, led by Olaf Scholz, is ahead of the CDU / CSU bloc led by Armin Laschet by more than 1.5% of the vote.

The results of the vote count in the parliamentary elections in Germany as of 00:36 (Kyiv time) on Monday, September 27, show that the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) won 25.8% of the vote, while the Christian Democratic and Christian -social unions (CDU / CSU) – 24.1%, writes DW.

According to the sociological service Infratest dimap, the third place with 14.6% of the votes is taken by the party Soyuz-90 / “green”, the fourth is the Free Democratic Party (FDP), which has 11.5%.

The top five is closed by the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany with 10.5%.

It is noted that the voting results have already been summed up in more than 90 constituencies.

Let us remind you that the German parliament (Bundestag) is formed according to a mixed system. Half of the seats are reserved for candidates who were elected in 299 single-mandate constituencies by a simple majority vote, that is, under the majoritarian system. The second half is distributed among the candidates who entered the Bundestag on party lists, depending on how many votes one or another party received.

On the eve, the Germans elected the deputies of the 20th Bundestag. In a few weeks, legislators will have to elect a new German chancellor, who will then form a government.

Earlier in Germany were made public exit poll data… According to a poll of voters at the exit from the polling stations, two key political forces – the Social Democrats and the bloc of the current Chancellor Merkel, the CDU / CSU – won approximately equally (25% each) of the votes.
