Eight seniors from Montluçon (Allier) revised their behavior during an awareness campaign

“At the wheel, the senior is not dangerous if we explain to him what has changed”, insists André Valverde, one of the volunteers of the road prevention.

That was the point of their presence yesterday afternoon in the Square Henri-Dunant. Where they made eight seniors aware of changes in road safety and reminded them of the right behaviors to adopt on the road

.

The intervention first made it possible to show the new signs that have appeared in recent years. “Like the signs for pedestrian zones or one-way streets with a cycle path in the wrong direction”. A reminder on how to take a roundabout or an insertion road was also made, breaking down several received ideas.

Practical workshops

The seniors also benefited from the expertise of a member of the departmental motorized brigade of the national police. He notably pointed out the place of the electric scooter in the road environment. The first part of the afternoon ended with a collective test of the Highway Code.

The eight seniors were then invited to participate in hands-on workshops, which included testing glasses that recreate the effects of alcohol and narcotics on driver behavior. premium

Work on perception and movement

In addition to driving, the simulator installed on the road track, in Square Henri-Dunant, made it possible to work on the position of the body, and particularly the feet, with seniors.

“By moving your torso forward a little, you will more easily turn your head to look at your blind spots”, described André Valverde, combining theory with practice.

Finally, three driving schools in Montluçon, Crescent, C Permis and Les Marais provided small learning sessions for seniors volunteering. “This afternoon was requested by the population. It was therefore important to answer them, ”concludes Leïla Douard, municipal councilor.
