Eid el-Kebir celebration: Mauritania to supply 450,000 sacrifice sheep to Senegal

#Mauritania : Mauritania is going to supply the Senegalese market with sheep during the festival of Eid el-Kebir, despite the context of the coronavirus pandemic. The two states have taken the necessary measures to facilitate this mass transhumance.

In this West African country, the gesture of sacrifice still takes on a social, sociological and psychological dimension, special and without equivalent. In Senegal, the importance of celebrating the great Muslim festival of Tabaski is centered on an animal, the sheep, to be sacrificed on D-Day.

In the measure of the means, it is a large ram, thus perpetuating the biblical gesture, then Koranic, of Abraham towards his elder son.

Thus, despite the context of a huge health depression, with serious economic and social consequences, the Senegalese government mobilizes its partners to avoid a possible shortage likely to increase the anger of the population in these difficult times.

In this perspective, Mauritania will supply the markets of Senegal with 450,000 sheep of sacrifice for the great Muslim festival of Tabaski, scheduled for early August.

The meeting focused on the mechanisms for supplying the Senegalese market with sheep during the feast of El Adha 2020. The two sides discussed several issues, including the opening of borders for 90 days to 45 days before the feast of ‘Aid Al Adha and 45 days after, note to allow Mauritanian traders to sell the rest of their sheep. Thus, three herd crossing points on the Senegal river have been identified (Rosso, Boghé and Matam-Toufde-Civet ”, reports the Mauritanian Information Agency (AMI).
