This decision was made after the favorable opinion of an advisory commission chaired by the prefect, which looked at the end of November both on the financing and the educational aspect of the establishment, in particular the content of the Muslim ethics course.
The decision to terminate the contract was taken Thursday evening, and a letter sent to the high school on Friday, the prefecture told AFP on Sunday evening, without wanting to detail the content of the letter.
High school officials said they have not yet received it.
Management irregularities
According to the Parisian which reveals this decisionthe prefect notably points out in his decision management irregularities and teachings described as contrary to the values of the Republic, particularly during Muslim ethics courses.
The Lille establishment of 400 students, opened in 2003 with the support of the former UOIF (now Muslims of France), is singled out for a Qatari donation in 2014, a contentious religious work in the bibliography of spiritual teaching , and management irregularities.
Founded 20 years ago in the wake of the ban on the veil in schools, Averroès became in 2008 the first Muslim high school to go under contract, and has since regularly ranked among the best in the region.
