Anyone who closely follows the Bundesliga knows Ecki Heuser! When things get hot in the league, the Sky field reporter is often in the thick of it – and he’s now in the fourth decade. During Heuser’s interviews, the stars keep getting excited, we’ll show you a best-of!

First and foremost, the hour strikes after the final whistle: After 90 minutes, those involved are emotional, most of them would like to get the interviews over and done with empty statements quickly.

But Heuser persists, he asks and asks – sometimes he gets an emotional reaction, sometimes the interviewees simply end the conversation prematurely or simply keep silent. However, Heuser is not satisfied with phrases – he brings most of those responsible to operating temperature before the kick-off during interviews.

The interviews he conducted are already closed „ran“-Times on SAT.1 provided a topic of conversation among football fans, it looks no different with „Sky“ off – it is often used in the top games on the pay TV broadcaster.

Interviews from four decades of Bundesliga history made it into our Best-of-Heuser – from Lothar Matthäus to Christoph Daum to Marco Reus, Heuser received an emotional reaction from all of them:

Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

After a 2-2 win in the away game in Frankfurt in September 2019, BVB captain Marco Reus is in the interview. Shortly before the end, Dortmund conceded the goal that cost them the three. Heuser questions the mentality of Borussia and brings Reus completely on the palm.

“It pisses me off with your mental shit”, is the visibly annoyed reaction from Reus. “Are you serious?” Asks the national player Heuser immediately afterwards. Two years later, the subject of “mentality” was still to pursue BVB. As if Heuser had known …

Ten seconds of silence in a live interview – the reason for this was not a sound problem, but a possible move from Gladbach coach Marco Rose to Dortmund. Before the derby against 1. FC Köln in February 2021, Rose wanted to talk about sport, Heuser about the future of the coach.

“They are silent,” Heuser states, in order to break Rose’s silence. He looked a bit puzzled before and then replied to the reporter rather excitedly: “Yes, Ecki, man, can we get to football now?”

The two then also go over to this. Correspondingly, there is also a conciliatory “It was nice to talk to you about football, Ecki” from Rose. The Borussia coach explained in the “football” part of the interview: “If we win, the rose is the master of the rotation” – and lost the derby.

David Wagner (FC Schalke 04)

After the West duel between Schalke 04 and Bayer Leverkusen in June 2020, the then S04 trainer David Wagner Heuser made a motivational aid for his troops: “After your quite provocative question, you did me a huge favor, of course, after you asked Peter Bosz if against such a team from Schalke, if you win then you would be happy at all. “

Wagner continued: “You didn’t make many Schalke friends with this question, but it helped us.” Then Wagner left the interview and left Heuser in the middle of a sentence. By the way, the game ended 1: 1 and Schalke should not win any more Bundesliga games in the 2020 calendar year.

Rudi Völler (Bayer Leverkusen)

“We mustn’t forget one thing, Mr. Ecki Heuser. I understood your question – as always when you ask such questions “- this reaction by Rudi Völler in the half-time of a Champions League game between Leverkusen and FC Barcelona can confidently be described as a” classic Völler “.

Heuser doesn’t even have a say in the following, but Völler has long been served. The interview ends with Heuser’s “I thank you” – Völler pissed off: “I don’t you”. There were no romantic feelings between the two on Valentine’s Day 2012.

Christoph Daum (Bayer Leverkusen)

Admittedly, it didn’t take much to get Christoph Daum crazy in the 90s. One of the reactions that many fans will remember more than 20 years later, Heuser really provoked with his relentless technique of short – annoying for the interlocutor – questions. Unfortunately, it is not known how Daum now feels about the phrase “in view”.

Tomasz Hajto (FC Schalke 04)

In November 2002, Schalke’s head of defense Tomasz Hajto was upset enough after 90 minutes against Bayer 04, and then came the interview with Heuser. The Pole is already talking about a scandal, then there is a question about assault. Hajto then asked Heuser two questions: “What kind of violence?” And “Did you see another game?”

Oliver Kahn (FC Bayern Munich)

After a defeat in Bremen, Oliver Kahn went to the “ran” interview in November 2002. Heuser wants to blame the former national goalkeeper for the goals conceded, Kahn first reacts with counter questions, then smugly and ultimately with gallows humor.

Lothar Matthäus (FC Bayern Munich)

If looks could kill! Heuser and Lothar Matthäus are now colleagues at “Sky” – more than 20 years ago the reporter hadn’t even finished formulating the first question, and Matthäus’s displeasure was obvious. Heuser’s reaction – just chasing one question after the other: “What are you looking at me like that? Don’t you agree? But?”

Andreas Möller (Borussia Dortmund)

But even Ecki Heuser doesn’t get into a duel with every protagonist: Andreas Möller shows how it can work here in the BVB jersey. When asked for a conclusion, there is only one: “Stop it, get away, man!” – unmistakably.

Olaf Thon (FC Schalke 04)

At the BVB rivals from Gelsenkirchen, Heuser was less direct, but all the more charming, from Olaf Thon. Even so, you can escape the hail of questions before it becomes uncomfortable.

We cannot really imagine that with so many heated hearts one can get cold. However, the scenes from four decades of Bundesliga coverage leave no doubt that Ecki Heuser will continue to follow up in the future – hardly anyone on the sidelines goes into duels as intensely as he does.
