More and more companies are also using cargo bikes. Like “Citylog”, which supplies 30 craft businesses in the city with three e-bike cargo bikes (200 kilos payload). The main cycling network in the state capital is to be properly expanded by 2026. So that cycling becomes more suitable for everyday use.
“The requirements for cycle paths are different today than they were ten or twenty years ago,” says Norbert Czerwinski (56, Die Grünen) and continues, “It’s not just cargo bikes that don’t have space on traffic islands, but also increasingly child trailers. The traffic light circuits must be changed so that stopping on a traffic island is no longer necessary. That must be standard in the main cycle network. “

The black and green cycle plan: The administration should implement smaller measures more quickly. The budget has already been increased by five million euros and four additional jobs have been created. The municipal subsidiary “Real Estate Project Management” is to implement the major cycling projects.
Often it is the little things that make it difficult for people in Düsseldorf to switch, such as wild vegetation or awkward routing. It will soon be possible to report bike path deficiencies via an app. Czerwinski: “We want you to get feedback after 72 hours whether it will be fixed or a construction project.”
