During the Pandemic Death Rate from Heart Disease Tripled, Total 12 Million People in a Year

BANDUNG, celebrities.id – Death rate as a result heart disease recorded a threefold increase since pandemic Covid-19 taking place in Indonesia. The increase was due to limited access of cardiac patients to medical facility.

“In total, reaching 12 million people in one year, this is far greater than the death toll from Covid-19,” said the Chairperson Association of Cardiovascular Specialists (Perki) Bandung City Syarief Hidayat at the launch of the My Heart application at Friends Sunda Resto, Jalan BKR, Bandung City, Friday (17/12/2021).

According to him, the high death rate during the pandemic was due to the limited access of heart patients to health facilities (faskes). At that time, many health facilities were full and could not accommodate Covid-19 patients. Meanwhile, the patient was hesitant to come to the hospital, worried about being exposed to Covid.

“Many hospitals are full, causing delays in treatment. Meanwhile, when a patient has a cardiac arrest for more than 5 minutes, he has suffered severe brain damage, making it difficult to help,” he said.

Recent surveys show, as many as 30 percent of heart patient deaths occur at home or outside the hospital. Those are the patients who have been registered. It is estimated that many other people who are not detected have heart problems, especially coronary heart disease.

Therefore, he said, there needs to be continuous education related to the basic life skills of the community. So that if a heart attack occurs, it can be treated on the spot. He also gave an example of the case of the Mayor of Bandung, Oded M Danial, who was strongly suspected of having died from a heart attack.

In addition to education, the public can also access various health applications to help detect heart problems early. Like the Hatiku application, it is hoped that it will make it easier for the public to get temporary services, when access is full. “I hope this can be a solution and help heart patients,” he said.
