Drupal 7’s end-of-life date moved one year to November 1, 2023 – IT Pro – News

The end-of-life date for Drupal 7 has been pushed back another year. Support for the CMS will not end until November 1, 2023, a year later than originally planned. According to the Drupal Foundation, the software is still overused.

Drupel 7 is vanaf 1 november 2023 end-of-life, write the developers from the Drupal Foundation, but the organization is keeping the option open to do so at a later date. The foundation will make that decision in July of that year. The end-of-life date will be re-evaluated annually from then on. “Factors that we include are community support, use of Drupal 7 and active maintainersthe developers write.

Drupal 7 is still widely used, according to the makers. A majority of the websites that the cms runs on run on version 7, although Drupal 9 has already been released. “Drupal 9 is well-maintained, secure, stable and feature-packed, but many organizations still rely on Drupal 7,” the makers say. “While these users should be making plans to upgrade to a newer version, it’s irresponsible to leave them vulnerable if they can’t.”

Drupal 7’s end-of-life date was already set last year moved up a year and initially would not fall until November 28, 2022. Then the developers cited the corona crisis as the reason for the postponement. The makers do not write anything about the eol date for Drupal 8; which seems to remain for the time being on November 2 of this year.
