In an emergency, a first aid kit can save lives. This is another reason why drivers must always ensure that the contents of the emergency kit are complete and correct. A new rule will take effect from February 2023. Then drivers have to carry an important product with them.
Anyone driving a car must carry a first-aid kit. This applies to short and long distances. The emergency bag (or box) must include plasters, gloves, wet wipes and a rescue blanket.
From February 2023 there will also be a mask requirement. The first aid kits should then contain two medical masks.
Will there be a fine from February 2023?
Possible. From February 1, 2023, a police check could result in a fine of five euros in extreme cases. The confirmed highway police on request.
The background is that the contents of the first-aid kit then no longer meet the minimum requirements of the DIN standard. However, the ADAC emphasizes that drivers do not have to completely replace the first aid kit if the masks are not included.
It is cheaper if you add two packaged medical masks to the box or bag.
What should I look out for in the first aid kit?
Be sure to check the expiry date on the first aid kit. If you don’t find the date, the content has different expiration dates.

Who checks whether the first aid kit is complete?
The first aid kit should be complete by the time of the next general inspection at the latest. “If this is incomplete, products have expired or are missing completely, there is a minor defect,” says the ADAC.
Where should the first aid kit be in the car?
There is no legal requirement.
Nevertheless, drivers should be able to access it as quickly as possible in an emergency. This makes the trunk the wrong place to keep the first aid kit.
Put the first aid kit in the glove compartment or under the passenger seat.
