Drivers have found a way to drive tinted. The traffic police shrug their shoulders :: Autonews

In 2020, the rules car glass tinting corrected and brought in line with modern GOST – light transmission of windshield and front side windows should be not less than 70%. The traffic police are closely behind this monitors and regularly conducts raids: for the first time tinting lovers are issued a fine of 500 rubles, and for the second time for an uncorrected violation, the amount of the fine doubles or the driver arrest for up to 15 days for disobeying the requirements of a police officer.

However, companies appeared on the market that offer to bypass all GOSTs – to install removable tinting or frame curtains. Drivers have the opportunity to drive with tinted windows, and if police officers appear, they can eliminate the violation on the spot and pay nothing. Autonews.ru tells how drivers circumvent the law and why it is unsafe.

Why tinting is illegal

The main reason for the prohibition of strong tinting is that it reduces the light transmission of glass. As a result, in the dark or in bad weather, it becomes worse for the driver to see what is happening on the road, and this is already fraught with accidents.

Precisely because a good view is important first of all for the driver, there are no restrictions for the second-row glasses – they can be tinted at least 100%, if only not with a film with a mirror effect.

But the front windows and windshield can be tinted only by 30%. Weak tinting is done already at the factory, however, it is almost imperceptible. After several years of operation, the glass of the car will in any case begin to let in less sunlight, and so that the future owner does not get fined, the factories tint the glass by 10-15%.

Despite the fact that such tinting does not protect from the sun and does not hide what lies in the car, safety is the main reason for the harsh GOST standards.

What happens for toning

Today, too strong tint is equated with vehicle malfunction or conditions under which operation is impossible.

For the first time, a motorist can get off with a simple warning if he agrees to eliminate the violation on the spot – that is, simply remove the film and ensure the required light transmission.

If the film could not be removed or did not want to (its installation may cost more than paying a fine), then for the first time the traffic police will write out a receipt for 500 rubles and release, and the driver will be able to pay the fine with a 50% discount.

But it will still be necessary to get rid of the tinting within 10 days. If this is not done, then when the traffic police officers stop again, the fine may double, and in some cases the court may arrest the driver – the fact is that his actions will be equated with disobeying the legal requirements of the police officer. As a rule, everything costs a fine if the driver has not been in a similar situation before or if he does not have unpaid fines.

But if this is not the first case of being sued for tinting, or if fines are not paid systematically, then the chances of being arrested increase.

How drivers bypass the rules

Motorists really do not like the ban on dull tinting. They explain that they need dark glasses to protect them from the sun. Some say that it is prettier this way, and “cars look more stylish and daring.”

Removable tinting has been offered on the market for several years. It is a silicone pad that is glued to the inside of the car glass. Such an overlay can be easily removed if the driver is stopped by a traffic police officer and asks to get rid of the tinting. The man simply removes it and leaves, having got off with a warning, and after the next turn he glues it to the glass again. This is a dangerous, but very affordable opportunity to ride with tinted windows – two of these covers will cost 3-4 thousand rubles.

Other motorists buy frame curtains. They are also inexpensive and cost about 4 thousand rubles for two side windows. These curtains are designed for different car models and are sold with different light transmission. Like removable tinting, the curtains are easily removed at the first request of the police officer and then just as easily returned to the place. Manufacturers in the descriptions for such frame curtains do not say anything about the danger of tinting.

Why are such life hacks dangerous?

Toning impairs the driver’s orientation in space and, accordingly, affects the speed of decision-making. For example, without tinting, a motorist can distinguish a pedestrian from a distance of 100 meters, and with a tightly tinted windshield – only from 50-70 meters.

It is unsafe for everyone in general, but especially for older motorists and people with poor eyesight.
