Donny van de Beek completed his loan transfer from Manchester United to Eintracht Frankfurt on Monday. The Bundesliga club can permanently take over the 26-year-old midfielder after six months with a purchase option.
Frankfurt can reportedly sign Van de Beek in the summer for 11 million euros. This amount could increase by 4 million euros through bonuses. Van de Beek is still with United until mid-2025.
“Donny van de Beek fits us perfectly and is an important piece of the puzzle for our team,” Eintracht director Markus Krösche writes on the club website. “He brings a wealth of international experience and our young players will benefit from that.”
Van de Beek started at United in the summer of 2020, which had paid 39 million euros to Ajax. The nineteen-time Dutch international’s period at Old Trafford was not a success, partly due to injuries. He managed just 2 goals and just as many assists in 62 matches for the English club.
United already rented Van de Beek to Everton for six months from January 2022. The former Ajax player could not impress there either. Even after the arrival of coach Erik ten Hag in the summer of last year, Van de Beek received little playing time at United. He only played 21 minutes this season.
Frankfurt is in the middle of the Bundesliga. The team of coach Dino Toppmöller will play against the Belgian Union Saint-Gilloise in the interim round of the Conference League in February. Frankfurt was surprisingly eliminated in the DFB-Pokal by third division team FC Saarbrücken.
