Doctors have learned to diagnose Parkinson’s disease in the early stages from an eye scan

An artificial intelligence system has been created that diagnoses Parkinson’s disease long before its visible symptoms appear. The diagnosis can be made by examining the fundus of the patient. This was reported at the annual conference of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).

An eye scan shows when, due to illness, the brain neurons that produce the hormone dopamine have died and others have been damaged. Parkinson’s disease is characterized by the destruction of the substantia nigra in the brain, which synthesizes the pleasure hormone dopamine and directs it to the motor centers. If the black substance is destroyed, the person’s coordination of movements is impaired, he often loses balance, and sometimes he may experience pain when moving.

It is still impossible to cure this disease, but the syndromes can be significantly alleviated.
