After an accident during a diving lesson in the De Meerkamp swimming pool in Amstelveen, a diving instructor died on Sunday. The victim is a man from Amsterdam, the municipality of Amstelveen reports.
The incident occurred early in the morning in an educational pool. Nemo diving club instructor was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He later died there from his injuries.
It is unclear what exactly happened in the pool. According to NH News an underwater cylinder may have exploded. The local media in Amstelveen also report it.
The Nemo diving club is very devastated, the municipality reports. Mayor Tjapko Poppens spoke to the people involved and relatives in the pool on Sunday. “This is a fatal accident. Our condolences go out to the victim’s closest relatives,” he said.
The Labor Inspectorate investigates the causes of the accident. Victim support and the GGD offer help to people who need it.
