Disney + to adapt ‘Percy Jackson’ saga to series

Percy Jackson returns to the screens. The children’s literature saga will be adapted once again, in the form of a series for the Disney + platform. The author of the books, Rick Riordan, announced it on Twitter this Thursday, May 14. The Percy Jackson saga follows the adventures of a 12-year-old boy who, nowadays, discovers that he is the son of Poseidon and finds himself embroiled in a war between the Gods of Olympus and the Titans. Five books were published, between 2005 and 2010.

The saga was first adapted for cinema, by 20th Century Fox, who released two films – “Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief” in 2010 and “Sea of the Monsters” in 2013 – with Logan Lerman in the title role . Disney having bought Fox in early 2019, the big-eared firm therefore finds itself with the rights to adapt the franchise. The Fox 21 TV Studios subsidiary is expected to produce the series, according to Deadline. On Twitter, Rick Riordan indicates that she will follow the plot of the books, and that the first season will cover the first volume.

The author specifies that he will be involved in the production – as will his wife Becky, who launched a #DisneyAdaptPercyJackson (“Disney, adapt Percy Jackson”) campaign on Twitter a few months ago, to engage fans of the saga.

Supplying Disney + with new content is a priority for the entertainment giant, while the service has already won 54.5 million subscribers in the ten countries where it is available. This week, the studio announced that the recording of the musical phenomenon “Hamilton”, which was to be released in theaters in December 2021, will be posted on Disney + on July 3.
