Disney showed a robot with a realistic look and a scary face

A team of Disney scientists showed the effects of working on a robot whose gaze is remarkably human. This technology can prove itself not only in amusement parks.

From year to year, robots are becoming more and more like humans. Their movements and appearance are constantly being refined, but we still feel that we are talking to machines. Now a project has emerged that could solve the perceived unnaturalness of such robots.

Disney has a robot with a keen eye

Disney engineers and robotics scientists have developed a system that gives humanoid robots a much more realistic view. Shown the machine imitates human movements, looks straight and blinks, but you can see too jumping eye movements that look involuntary. Just like a man who notices something by looking around.

You can see the effects of the work of Disney Research scientists in the video below.

Head movements are more natural and the chest slightly rises – as when breathing. Thanks to the sensor placed in the chest area, the robot knows when it should turn towards a specific person. If, while interacting with a human, he hears a sound in the distance, he will look in that direction and then resume talking. This behavior makes the the machine behaves more human.

The invention will allow for a comfortable conversation with a robot, which begins to look more and more like a living being than a machine with a camera and artificial intelligence on board. It is possible that this technology will be widely used in all new robots that will interact with humans.

The robot shown in the movie is obviously not skinned, so it looks more like a zombie than a human. However, after fine-tuning the details, it will be perfect for Disney theme parks, where it will revive numerous animatronics with its realistic look.
