I was surprised that Macron posed with the t-shirt but he saw what the design was about. ” During this lively discussion, the President challenged the term “Police violence”, according to these same sources.

Asked by BFMTV why he posed with the T-shirt “LBD 2020”Emmanuel Macron replied: “We are a free, democratic country, which likes insolence and therefore there was this work which was done with a T-shirt, where indeed, there is BD, and LBD with the L crossed out. I had a chat with Jul this afternoon. I completely disagree with his approach. We do not agree. I reject the term police violence. I consider that there is violence in society. When guilty acts are done, the police and gendarmes must be exemplary and at that time, be prosecuted and punished, if their guilt is proven. But violence is first in society. And in France, the police and the gendarmerie are at the service of a republican order. They are there to protect laws. So I don’t put this violence on the same level. So I totally disagree with their approach. Nevertheless from where I am, I have to defend creativity, freedom of expression, including insolence, and including the creation of artists who say things, do things with which I do not agree, but who are there. Here. So this is a free society. It is also because we are a free society, where the President of the Republic can agree to pose with a T-shirt, where there is something with which he does not agree, that it is a society in which we have the right to demand respect and civility from everyone, in which we can say that violence is prohibited ”.
