The International Equestrian Federation reported a lack of tools to assess the neutrality of athletes.
The number of Russian and Belarusian athletes who could potentially go to the Summer Olympics in Paris is melting before our eyes. Another sports association refused to allow Russians and Belarusians to qualify for the 2024 Games, despite the recommendations of the IOC to return the representatives of the Russian Federation and Belarus to international starts in a neutral status.
We are talking about the International Federation of Equestrian Sports (FEI), which announced the absence of tools for assessing the neutrality of athletes, reports Inside the Games.
“Neutrality cannot currently be defined or assessed properly,” said the head of the federation, Ingmar de Vos.
Thus, a decision was made to extend the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions held under the auspices of the FEI. In addition, officials from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus are prohibited from attending tournaments, and no FEI competitions can be organized in these countries in the current year.
The Federation expressed its full support to the people of Ukraine.
“The Board reaffirms its absolute support for the people of Ukraine, who have suffered greatly, and declares its unwavering solidarity and support for the Ukrainian equestrian community through the FEI Solidarity Assistance Fund,” the statement said.
Earlier, the International Volleyball Federation did not allow the men’s and women’s teams of Russia to the Olympic qualification. World Athletics and European Athletics also announced the extension of sanctions against Russians and Belarusians.
Recall that at the end of March, the IOC recommended that the federations return the Russians and Belarusians to international competitions, subject to their neutrality. At the same time, a decision on the participation of representatives of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus in the Olympic Games-2024 will be made later.
