Despite the corona pandemic: Tonne sticks to high school graduation dates | NDR.de – Nachrichten – Lower Saxony

Status: 03.03.2021 11:32 a.m.

The Abitur dates in Lower Saxony are being met as planned, despite the corona pandemic. The Ministry of Culture has confirmed this.

The current schedule should also apply if the schools are in alternating or even distance learning at the time of the exams. This emerges from a decree issued by the ministry to the around 450 schools affected. Education Minister Grant Hendrik Tonne (SPD) promised the students that they would only be asked about the subject matter that was actually dealt with. “We guarantee fair tests, nobody has to fear disadvantages due to Corona,” said Tonne.

Exams start on April 19th

The Abitur exams begin on April 19th with history and end on May 11th with physics. From May 17th to June 9th there should be post-writing dates. According to the decree, the prerequisite for the schedule is that the Corona Ordinance allows the examinations to be held. However, it is intended to formulate the ordinance in such a way that this is also the case when school attendance is prohibited, the ministry said. Schoolchildren who are in quarantine for the examination date should use the rewriting date.

Examination boards are being reduced in size

The decree also regulates the procedures for the written and oral examinations. The aim is to relieve the burden on teachers by reducing the number of examination boards from three to two members.
