jpnn.com, JAKARTA – Former terrorist who is also the founder of the Indonesian Islamic State (NII) Crisis Center Ken Setiawan said he was not surprised by the move by the National Police Anti-terror Detachment 88 to arrest a member of the Central Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).

Ken stated that he had long conveyed information about individuals at MUI who were indicated to be involved in the network radicalism and terrorism.

“Perhaps before that no action has been taken because it has not fulfilled the elements of a criminal act of terrorism,” Ken said in his statement, Tuesday (16/11).

According to Ken, his statement about the existence of individuals at MUI indicated that he was involved in a network of radicalism was often denied.

Because, MUI is called the representative of the scholars and the pious.

“In my opinion, MUI is not an association of scholars, but an association of representatives of Islamic organizations,” he said.

At MUI, said Ken, there are indeed those with radical views. “Uniquely, other MUI members cannot do much,” he said.

Ken also said the law for handling terrorism in Indonesia is still weak. The reason is that a person cannot be charged with the Anti-terrorism Act if they have not taken actions that lead to terrorism.
