Demonstration in Breda against corona measures: ‘We want freedom’

About a hundred people protested against the corona measures in Breda on Wednesday evening. They walked in a procession through the Tuinzigt district, carrying lights and torches. The protest has been peaceful.

“We are for equality and against exclusion. We want the QR code to disappear and the lockdown to end,” says a coordinator of the light tour who wishes to remain anonymous. “We want to get on with our lives.” According to her, people from the Tuinzigt district would mainly be present, who have also participated in other demonstrations in the city in recent weeks.

The demonstration started at seven o’clock in the evening at Westertuin park. “What do we want? Freedom. When do we want that? Now!” the participants chanted several times.

Zebra
The demonstrators carry torches, chains of lamps or lit umbrellas with texts such as ‘freedom and love’. Two participants are dressed as a unicorn and as a zebra.

A participant who wishes to remain anonymous says: “This is a counter-noise to the corona measures. That they do not inject a vaccine, of which they do not know what is in it. We only want love.”

Not registered
The demonstration mentioned on the site ‘The Netherlands in resistance’ has not been reported to the municipality. He was also not aware of the demonstration during the trip. A spokesperson later said: “Police and enforcement are keeping an eye on the journey to ensure it is safe.”
