Decisive Free Assembly kicks off without Joacine

The meeting of the Free Assembly, the body that will decide whether or not the party removes political confidence from deputy Joacine Katar Moreira, began around 9 pm on Thursday. Until that time, the congresswoman elected by the Free had not yet arrived at the place – the possibility of being able to be present or not, in fact, generated controversy.

Fonte do Livre said this Wednesday to the Lusa agency that the deputy had been summoned to the meeting via e-mail, but Joacine’s staff guarantees that she was not informed. Therefore, the possibility is open that the parliamentarian will not learn in person of the party’s final decision.

Previous assembly was unanimous

The Assembly of the Free – the highest body among congresses and composed of about 40 members – communicated, on the 16th, the desire to withdraw political support to Joacine Katar Moreira. If consummated, the decision, then unanimously proposed, would have left the party without parliamentary representation, unless the deputy gave up her mandate. Joacine has already revealed that he would not do it, since the mandates are personal.

The congress of Livre, which took place on 18 and 19 December, decided to leave the decision for the following days. The new Assembly – elected at the congress, but composed of many of the previous members – came to set the decisive meeting for last Monday; however, “procedural issues” postponed it to this Thursday.
