SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — A 37-year-old suspect is dead after allegedly assaulting and killing an elderly woman and a dog in San Francisco’s Richmond District, according to the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD).

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning on the 700 block of 31st Avenue, near Washington High School. Officers responded to a residence after receiving a distress call.

Upon arrival, an officer was speaking with an 84-year-old man at the doorway when the suspect, armed with a knife, advanced towards both the officer and the elderly man. In response, the officer fired his weapon, fatally shooting the suspect. The suspect was later transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Inside the home, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of a 76-year-old woman and a dog. The 84-year-old male victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

My heart and thoughts are with the family,” she said.
