Controversy Over PDIP’s Support in 2024 Election: Chairman Goes Against Party Direction

PDIP Solo DPC Chairman FX Hady Rudyatmo has announced his decision to go against the direction set by the party’s General Chairperson, Megawati Soekarnoputri, regarding the 2024 Election. Rudyatmo has expressed his support for President Joko Widodo’s youngest son, Kaesang Parangep, who is running for the Depok Pilwalkot.

Initially, Rudyatmo had stated that he would support Gibran Rakabuming, the Mayor of Solo, in the Central Java gubernatorial election. However, he clarified that his support for Gibran would only be if it is also supported by Megawati.

Rudyatmo stated, “As long as the chairman supports and it is the right of all Indonesian citizens to nominate and be nominated, I am legally obliged to support and win.” He emphasized that his support would be perpendicular to the orders of the chairman and the party, indicating his readiness to support Kaesang if he decides to run for the Depok Pilwalkot.

He further added, “Whether it’s Mas Gibran, Mas Kaesang running in Depok, wanting to run in Solo, all go through the mechanism and the general chairperson makes recommendations, the law must be won and implemented.”

However, Rudyatmo mentioned that there have been no intense discussions within the party regarding the promotion of Gibran and Kaesang. He stated that the party is currently focused on winning the presidential and legislative elections, as the regional election is the last event in the 2024 simultaneous election stage.

When asked about discussions within the party, Rudyatmo said, “Not yet. I’m concentrating on the presidential and legislative elections first. The regional elections are in November.”

It remains to be seen how Rudyatmo’s decision to support Kaesang and potentially Gibran will impact the party’s overall strategy for the upcoming elections.
