De Standaard launches Radar, a new culture podcast

Today we present you a new podcast: Radar. Every Saturday our journalists update you on what is happening in the world of images, sounds and letters.

No, Radar will not offer you an exhaustive overview of all exhibitions, films, books … But we do want to offer you a handful of cultural events every week that, we can only say, a real event. A visual artist who suddenly resurfaces, an opera that offers new insight into Verdi’s work, a TV series that deals with generational differences in a smart way…

‘A weekly shot of culture’ promise colleagues Lise Bonduelle and Cathérine De Kock. They will enter into a conversation with their colleagues in the culture editors and use culture to tell us something about the world in which we now live. About our zeitgeist and how it breathes and changes. So don’t expect a summary of what you knew and Wikipedia knowledge, but stories about real emotion and insight.

Recently we heard someone on the radio talk about his love for Italy. About how he devoured every book about the country. How many times had the man been to Italy? Never. He didn’t like to travel. What does this have to do with our new podcast? Radar naturally prefers to chase you out the door, like a travel guide wants to guide you to Italy. But like a good travel guide, Radar is also an experience in itself, a moment in which you can immerse yourself in cultural life – in 20 minutes you are up to date with what really matters. Radar is just sitting down at a table where people talk about the beautiful things in life.

In the first episode we hear whether Kanye West is finally the innovative hip-hopper he once was on his new record. Geert Van der Speeten explains why he is so enthusiastic about the work of Bram Demunter, the young painter who already exhibits at the age of 28 in Tim Van Laere Gallery. ‘It is the conversations we have in the editorial office that we also bring to the listener’, says Cathérine De Kock. ‘It will often be more personal than a review or article in the newspaper.’ The podcast is always rounded off with some personal tips from Lieve Van de Velde, head of the culture editors.

You can Radar from now on listen via of DS Podcast app or any other podcast player.
