Cyberpunk 2077 – Postponing even more crunch time

Cyberpunk 2077 is postponed to September and yet the development team has to work an enormous amount of overtime.

Cyberpunk 2077 only possible with crunch

As we reported earlier, developer CD Projekt RED has announced on Twitter that the latest work will be postponed to September 17th. The release of the role-playing shooter for April 16 on PC and consoles was actually planned. According to the message, the game is basically playable and the content is complete. Here is the original message again:

Even more crunch

Now one could assume that the delay will give the developers a little relief, but unfortunately that is not the case. At a Q & A Studio chief Adam Badowksi asked whether there would be more overtime, i.e. crunch. Badowksi replied the following:

“To some degree, yes – to be honest. We try to limit crunch as much as possible, but it is the final stage. We try to be reasonable in this regard, but yes. Unfortunately. ”

Already at The Witcher 3 a lot of overtime was necessary and CD Projekt RED admitted back then that this last phase is inhumane and that their employees gave everything. Unfortunately, the topic of crunch is not the exception, but rather the rule with such huge projects. Even ten years after the “Rockstar Spouses”, where partners of the developers on Twitter contributed to the month-long crunch Red Dead Redemption attention, has not improved much in the gaming industry on this scale.
